For the first time, Year 6 pupils from Stepaside CP School visited the URDD residential Centre in Cardiff. They spent three action filled days in and around the Capital city experiencing many different activities. The trip began at the Royal Mint on Wednesday 5th April and ended at the Principality Stadium on Friday 7th April. Other activities included bowling, cinema, swimming and ice skating but the most popular was the speed boat trip in Cardiff Bay. “Our thanks go to the school staff and volunteers, Mr Richard Adams, Mrs Theresa Williams and Mr Ross Williams, who accompanied the children and to the URDD staff, also a big thank you to the pupils for their behaviour whilst away from school and their parents. For some it was their first time away from home. Residential trips are an excellent way to build confidence and develop relationships whilst providing memories of primary school for pupils to look back on as they move on to secondary school.”
Meanwhile back at school the Infant pupils got crafty with their parents and family members to produce a fantastic array of Easter bonnets. Members of the school council judged the beautiful Bonnets and Hats and awarded prizes to each class. The Infants then donned their masterpieces to parade for the rest of the school.
Having been rewarded with a non uniform day to celebrate their excellent attendance this term the pupils gathered in assembly for the half termly 100% attendance draw. For each full week they attend school, pupils are entered in the draw and this term the prizes were much sought after Easter eggs! Here are the lucky winners.
As well as entry into the draw, all pupils with 100% attendance for the term receive a medal from Headteacher Mr Paul Harries. Pictured are infant and junior pupils with their medals, missing are the year 6 pupils who were away on their residential.
Competition success.
During the Spring term Mrs Williams entered the Nursery class into a Spring display competition with EYR, a supplier of arts and craft resources to schools. We recently found out that we had come first in the competition and received a large hamper of art supplies. Mrs Waters and her staff in the Nursery had worked hard to produce the display which forms the activity corner for the term. The walls were adorned with colourful flowers and creatures, painted by the pupils, and the area was being used to propagate seeds planted by nursery pupils and members of the school’s gardening club.
